Food for Thought

Tired of the TV pushing fast food at your kids? Well, turn off the TV and teach them to play a little Bluegrass music! Trade in that fast food for fast pickin’, the homegrown kind!

Learning a musical instrument can be a family affair! Your child needs your guidance and encouragement.  Music education should be a part of every child’s day. It can be a very important part of a child’s life. It can bring the family together in a way that benefits everyone, as
singing and playing a musical instrument helps kids make some sense of the world.

Music is a form of expression that can help convey ideas and emotions that might otherwise be bottled up inside, yearning to be set free. Sitting around the living room swatting out a few tunes with your kids can be a wonderful experience.  They listen to the words of the songs and love to join in.

It is a fact that children imitate their parent's mannerisms, interests and hobbies, so what better way to help your child grow up good and wise than to play a little music with them?  Playing music can promote social skills and is great way to meet interesting people. Expose your kids to all types of music, seek out live music, and let your kids experiment with different instruments to find what they might want to play.

How often do we put on a CD, listen to the music and wish that we could play that well?  Well, everyone is capable of learning to play if they set about it in the right way.  Instructional material available today is in abundant supply, such as books, videos, CDs and Software programs that slow down the music yet keep it in pitch. These instructional tools make it a lot easier to learn.

One of the best ways to learn an instrument is to find someone you like and emulate them, buy their recordings, listen to them and try to learn their songs.

So trade in that Big Mac fix for some hot licks! A little bluegrass music can enhance and enrich your life, sore fingers and all. It might be just what the doctor ordered.
